The Second Serve
Tennis Collection
Your Doubles Partner for the Mental Game
A mindfulness deck for players who want more than a better forehand.
Let me tell you something about tennis — and about life.
The first serve is easy to love. Everything is fresh, the pressure hasn’t landed yet, and you can swing with nothing to lose.
But the second serve? That’s a different game.
The second serve comes after you missed. After the doubt crept in. After the score tightened and your own mind started talking louder than it should. The second serve is where matches are won and lost — not because of your technique, but because of what’s happening in the six inches between your ears.
I created this deck for that exact moment.
Twenty cards. Twenty rituals. Designed to help you do what the best players do without thinking — manage pressure, sharpen focus, release frustration before it eats your next point, and stay motivated when the scoreboard isn’t going your way.
This isn’t theory. These are simple, practical anchors you can pull out before a match, on the changeover, or in the quiet moment after you’ve walked off court — when you’re deciding what kind of player you want to be next time.
Because here’s what I’ve learned, on the court and off it:
A calm mind isn’t a luxury.
It’s the difference between the player you are and the player you know you can be.
If you’ve ever walked off a court frustrated — knowing you played below your level, knowing the match was lost in your head before it was lost on the scoreboard — The Second Serve was made for you.
Not to make you a champion. But to give you, point by point, breath by breath, a mind that’s ready for whatever comes next.

How It Works
A 3-Step Reset to Stay in the Match
Anchor — The Changeover
Sit. Touch. Breathe. Grab the deck from your bag. The cards act as a physical circuit breaker — stopping the mental spiral, grounding your nervous system, bringing you back into your body.
Reset — The 90 Seconds
Flip. Read. Shift. While you catch your breath, turn to a focus card. One clear prompt pulls your attention away from the last point and back to what you can control. You are actively trading frustration for composure.
Command — The Return
Breathe. Rise. Return. When “Time” is called, take one intentional breath. Leave the deck at the bench and walk back to the baseline with a clear head — ready to command the next point.
Reset fast. Stay present. Play the next point with intention.
Why a Card, and Not an App
In a game played point by point, the smallest mental shift can change everything.
When pressure rises, most players rely on thoughts alone. But thoughts drift. They get caught in the last mistake, the tension of the score, the weight of what just happened.
A card in your hand doesn’t drift. It is small, physical, and immediate.
Reach. Pause. Refocus. A simple sequence you can return to between points, on the changeover, or in the silence before a serve that matters.
Over time, it becomes more than a tool. It becomes a ritual.
Why I Made It
I have been on a tennis court most of my life.
I trained competitively as a young player. I have walked off more courts than I can count, replaying points I should have left behind, frustrated with a body that was capable and a mind that wasn’t ready. I learned, slowly, that the player I was on the inside was not always the player I was capable of being on the outside — and that the gap between the two was almost always mental.
The Second Serve is what I wish I’d had then. It is also what I use now, at forty-eight, still learning, still on the court, still meeting the same opponent I have been meeting since I was sixteen — the one between my own ears.
What you’re holding isn’t theory designed in a lab. It is a practice, refined on the court and in everyday life, by someone who knows exactly how this game tests you.
For the Tennis Player in Your Life
If you are reading this for someone else — a partner, a parent, a friend, a child who lives for this game — The Second Serve is the rare gift that respects how seriously they take their tennis.
It is not a novelty. It is not motivational. It is a quiet, beautifully made tool for the part of the game that no racket, no string job, and no new coach can fix.
Most players never think to buy something like this for themselves. That’s exactly what makes it the right gift.
It arrives in a premium box with a velvet pouch — designed to feel as considered as it is.
Play the Next Point
Because in tennis, the difference is not just in your technique. It is in how fast you can come back to yourself.
Sometimes, all it takes is one clear thought to bring you there.
Words from the court
Real words. No gimmicks.
Cry less on changeovers
“I cry less on changeovers. That's basically the review.”

Bought it for my daughter
“Bought it for my daughter (14, very competitive, very hard on herself). She uses it. I'm not allowed to ask too much about it which I guess means it's working.”

The perfect gift!
“Gave it to my doubles partner for her birthday and she texted me from the court the next week. Perfect size to keep in her bag, beautiful packaging, and she said it actually helped her between points. Already buying another for my coach.”

FAQ
Questions, answered.
About the cards
- What exactly is a TakeTimeTo deck?
A set of physical cards, bound together with a durable metal ring and packaged in a premium box with a velvet pouch. Each card carries one clear, practical prompt designed to be used in the moment—on the course, on the court, in the workout, or in everyday life.
The cards are not theory or quotes. They are tools, designed to interrupt autopilot and bring you back to focus, resilience, and presence when it matters most.
- Which deck is right for me?
Each deck is built around a specific moment in a specific sport:
- Mental Mulligan — Golf Collection. For the long walks between shots and the conversations in your head over the ball.
- The Second Serve — Tennis Collection. For the changeover, the next point, and the match that’s being played in the six inches between your ears.
- One More Rep — Workout Collection. For the moment your body says enough and you decide what happens next.
If you play more than one—many of our customers do—the decks are designed to work as a system. The same three principles (focus, resilience, presence) appear across all three, expressed differently for each game.
- How many cards are in each deck?
The number is calibrated to the rhythm of each game.
- Mental Mulligan (Golf) — 18 cards, one for each hole of a full round.
- The Second Serve (Tennis) — 20 cards.
- One More Rep (Workout) — 20 cards.
Each card targets a specific mental pattern or moment you face during play.
- Do I have to use all the cards every time?
No.
The cards are bound on a durable ring so they stay together— easy to carry, easy to flip through, never lost in a bag. But the ring opens. If one card speaks to you more than the others—a thought you keep needing, a reminder for a pattern you’re working on—take it out. Slip it in your pocket. Tape it inside your locker. Keep it on your nightstand.
The deck is designed to be used as a whole, and designed to release the one card you need most when you need it most. Both ways are right.
- What makes the cards different from a meditation app or a mindset book?
An app interrupts you with a notification. A book requires a chair. A sports psychologist requires an appointment.
The cards live in the moment—between sets, on the changeover, standing over the ball. That’s the only place real change happens, because that’s the only place the old patterns actually run. The deck is designed to meet you exactly there.
- Why physical cards instead of an app?
Because awareness requires presence—not distraction.
No notifications. No messages. No interruptions. Just one clear thought at the right moment.
There is also something deeper. What you physically touch, you remember. These cards are not just read—they are handled, flipped, used. That creates a stronger connection than anything on a screen.
Not in your phone. Not in your head. In your hands.
Using the deck
- How do I use the cards in the moment?
Draw a card before your round, match, or session to set your intention. Keep one in your pocket, on your bag, or by your mat. Flip to one when you feel your focus slipping.
You don’t follow a system. You use them when the moment demands it.
- Will this actually improve my game?
Yes—but not the way other tools improve it.
The cards won’t fix your swing, your forehand, or your form. What they fix is the gap between the player you are on a good day and the player you are on a bad one. Most of that gap is mental, and the cards close it.
Players who use the deck consistently report walking off the course or the court with fewer regrets—fewer points lost to frustration, fewer holes lost to the previous one, fewer sessions abandoned because the voice in their head won that day.
That’s where performance really shifts.
- Who is this for — beginners or advanced players?
Both.
The mental game is universal. A beginner uses the cards to build confidence and presence from the start. An advanced player uses them to break the patterns that limit their performance under pressure. The cards meet you wherever you are.
- Can I use them outside of sport?
Yes—and this is where the practice deepens.
Golf, tennis, and the workout are the training ground. They are where the patterns reveal themselves most clearly: the doubt over the ball, the frustration after a missed point, the bargaining voice at the end of a set. But once you’ve felt those patterns in sport, you start seeing them everywhere—in difficult conversations, before a meeting, in the moments your day starts to slip away from you.
Many of our customers tell us the cards travel with them off the course or off the court—slipped into a wallet, kept on a desk, pulled out before a hard call.
For those moments, we also made the coin.
- Can other people see me using them?
Yes—and that’s part of the power.
Clipped to your bag or held in your hand, the cards are a visible signal: you are not just playing. You are training your mind. For many of our customers, that visibility is part of the practice—a quiet declaration that the inner game matters.
About the coin
- What is the coin, and how is it different from the cards?
The coin is the everyday companion to the cards—small enough to live in your pocket, weighty enough that you remember it’s there.
On one side, an arc rises: the trajectory of every shot, every serve, every swing—the reminder that how you play is how you live. On the other side, three words orbit a single point: Focus. Resilience. Presence. They never begin and never end, because they are not steps to complete. They are qualities to return to.
Where the cards train you in the moment of play, the coin keeps the practice with you the rest of the time. The cards are sport-specific. The coin is everywhere—in your pocket on a walk, in your hand before a difficult conversation, on your desk while you work, in your palm in the moments your day starts to drift.
Together, the cards and the coin form one practice across two surfaces: the field of play, and everything else.
- Do I need both the deck and the coin?
No. Each works on its own.
Many of our customers start with one—the deck for the sport they care most about, or the coin as their everyday anchor—and add the other once they feel the practice taking hold.
If you are choosing between them: start with the deck if there is a specific moment in your sport you want to change. Start with the coin if you want a daily, all-day reminder of who you are when you are at your best.
Quality, gifting, and ordering
- What about the quality and packaging?
Everything is designed to feel intentional. The cards, the ring, the box, the pouch—solid, minimal, premium. This is not something you throw in your bag and forget. It is something you pick up, use, and come back to.
Each deck arrives in a presentation-quality box with a velvet pouch, ready to give or to keep.
- Is it a good gift?
It is a thoughtful gift—the kind that respects how seriously the recipient takes their game. Most golfers, tennis players, and people who train will never buy something like this for themselves. That is exactly what makes it the right gift.
If you are buying for someone whose preferred sport you are not sure of, the deck most universally welcomed is One More Rep, because nearly everyone trains in some form. The coin is also an excellent gift for someone whose practice is broader than a single sport.
- Can I buy the deck and the coin together?
Yes. The deck and the coin make a set—the deck for the sport, the coin for everything after it. Add the coin to your order, or take both together as a set at a discount, shipped free.
- Where do you ship, and how long does it take?
We ship within the US. Delivery time depends on the option you choose at checkout, calculated for your location. Orders over $60 ship free.
- What is your return policy?
If it’s not right for you, send it back within 30 days of the day it arrives, unused and in its original condition, and we’ll refund you. Reach out first at hello@taketimeto.me and we’ll walk you through it. Return shipping is on you; the original shipping isn’t refunded. We want you confident in the deck—not stuck with one that isn’t yours.
- I have another question. How do I reach you?
Write to us at hello@taketimeto.me. Real questions get real answers—usually from me.
